Helping Himachal Breathe Through COVID-19

As the second wave of COVID 19 ravages India, even the biggest cities with the most infrastructure are weak and struggling for oxygen supply. If the pandemic were to strike the poor communities in rural Himachal Pradesh, they would be able to do little about it. In response to the devastating news, The Village of Dreams team talked to hospitals in rural Himachal Pradesh, India, about how they could lend a helping hand in this hour of need.

To ensure that the local hospitals have a steady oxygen supply that can satisfy patients’ critical needs, The Village of Dreams team arranged for 10 oxygen concentrators from the United States to be transported to Talai and Barsar Hospitals. They have also sent masks to the local panchayat (council) to be distributed amongst the village communities and raise awareness of the importance of mask-wearing in the fight against the virus.

The Oxygen Concentrators Being Received At A Local Hospital

This project was made possible via The Village of Dreams’s partnership with the organization Chirag, which shares the common goal of providing basic necessities and education to underprivileged communities in need.

The logistics and delivery of the oxygen concentrators were led by The Village of Dreams team member Sunil Sharma, who is from the local village of Karsai and is based in the Bay Area, California, USA.

We send a big thank you to Chirag, Sunil Sharma, medical workers, and everyone else who stood by our communities to help us beat the virus, together.
